Wrongful Death: Professional Focus on the Case, Personal Dedication to the Family
Coping with the death of a loved one is an overwhelming and emotional experience. This experience is not made any easier when the loss is the sudden and unexpected death of one’s child. My name is Jeff Roberts, and my firm, The Roberts Law Firm, handles wrongful death cases in Orange County, Los Angeles County and throughout Southern California. My number one priority in handling wrongful death cases is to really get to know my clients, those who have lost a loved one, and understand the relationship they have lost.
Recently our attorneys in Orange County handled the wrongful death of a 19 year old boy in a devastating car crash caused by a delivery truck. Seeking help to overcome what seemed like an insurmountable obstacle in their lives, the boy’s parents trusted The Roberts Law Firm with their case, and more importantly, with the story of their son’s life.
During the two years that The Roberts Law Firm handled the wrongful death case I personally developed not only a professional relationship with the parents, but also a personal relationship. While I knew that my clients’ son was a stand-out football player for his high school team and was extremely close with his parents and sister, I came to learn much more about the son through my personal relationship with my clients. I found out that the son regularly went to lunch with his mother, played flag football with his father, and was the popular kid that connected easily with the jocks as well as the band members. I learned by clients’ son was a caring, empathetic boy, who touched many lives during his brief time on earth.
By learning so much about my clients’ son I came to clearly understand what it was they had lost when their son died as a result of the wrongful death. Only then could I represent to the defendants and their insurance companies and their lawyers who my clients were and what the loss of their son meant to them. The case was settled before trial for a confidential amount.
While no amount of money can replace the death of a loved one, wrongful death attorneys strive to balance the wrongful conduct by seeking compensation for financial losses and emotional hardships suffered by a love one’s surviving family members. My clients’ settlement represented compensation for the loss of their son’s love, loss of his support and companionship, and the affection and moral support he gave them.
The thing that I am most proud about my handling of this wrongful death case in Orange County is that I gained by clients’ trust, not just to handle their case, but to gain access to their relationship with their son. This is my approach to all the wrongful death cases that The Roberts Law Firm handles in Orange County and Los Angeles County.
